Made regular trips to Southend on Sea in the late 60's and early 70's. It was the nearest bit of 'seaside' for us.

A friend was commuting from East Cowes to Portsmouth via Ryde on it before she retired a couple of years ago and said it was fun in the summer, less so in the winter.. 🤢

They landed on the beach in Ryde IOW, where we holidayed in my childhood. Used to get blasted by pebbles and the smell of engine fuel. 60's health & safety!

Fuel - thats its Achilles heal - and the noise on board. But like a UFO it was/is a real spectacle coming up the beach
