1) the idea that there are more people who would vote for dems, if only they'd just let trans people be eliminated than there are trans people is delusional. 2) allying with us then throwing us under the bus the minute we started polling bad makes them look much weaker than sticking up for us.
Not only makes them look weaker, but also anyone else who is part of a historical outgroup is looking at them like “will they throw me under the bus next in the name of political expediency?” It erodes trust.
I'm cis. I have trans loved ones. Even if I didn't *personally* know and love any trans people, I'd still side with you over an asshole who wants to be Trump 2.0. Throwing a vulnerable minority under the bus to appease bigots is reprehensible.
Yes. The “guys, tone it down with the trans stuff, it’s not polling well” is just beyond stupid. They should be staunchly supportive and ALSO focus more on things like deploying the military against citizens and cost of living. Most Dems know someone trans and want them alive and well and free.
Exactly. Knowing someone who is transgender is not the "fringe" thing that the transphobes want us to believe. There is a way to reach the "small town" centrist Dems without throwing groups of people under the goddamned bus.
Also, being aggressively supportive and uncompromising on any moral/ethical principle always is better politically than acting uncertain and flip flopping based on random opinion polls. This is true even when your moral principle is horrible, and that's why the GOP wins with unpopular principles.
