There is little support for a return to the violence. But the UK announcing that the Irish in UK controlled Ulster will not have their human rights guaranteed, it's not a small thing. The demand for human rights for the Irish was how the "troubles" started originally.

Majority clearly does not want violence. But destabilise everything & things can escalate.

Ah, but I remember during the 70s we were being told every week that the ‘vast majority’ of people were against violence. Maybe so, but there were enough prepared to give cover/too scared to give the minority a lot of scope for endless tit for tat violence.
