Would also be good if the ft software team got a move on with putting the butterfly 🦋 on here 👇 They said, idk a year ago, it was ‘on the list’. (I spent 12 years responsible for R&D projects & I believe that without pressure, some things never get done…)

ft lead story today, with X & FB sharing links. No bluesky.

I think this a major factor - institutional capture means governments and media aren’t moving (I’m sorry but people are mean to them on x as well) and any indication the site exists is rare Yougov doesn’t mention it on the surveys, the icon isn’t on websites, etc

I don't remember Twitter being a fast impact on institutions in the late 00s

Yeah, it's just backwards. Media organisations were on Twitter a long time before the automatic button on the site was.

Yup. The two platforms experience/ background are quite different but Twitter absolutely was a slow burner in many now standard use cases. Hell, took me about 4-5 years to find a use for Twitter after joining at a gig in N London. That being restaurant consultants recommending places/clients

Indeed. I mean, sorry to be blunt, but as it stands, selfishly there are quite a lot of things *I personally* want a person cleverer than me at the FT to be building for my newsletter that aren't 'a Bluesky button'!

for it is more complicated than it might be. It remains on the list but not at the top! related: social referral traffic from bluesky is growing and becoming significant. News-engaged users are here and that will be the thing that drives a button!

(I'm v aware that I am a hypocrite on this, in that honesty compels me to admit that I have today again added more newsletter related requests, and that basically there is nothing that when people go 'why has this not happened?' I do not have to do a guilty face about.)

It’s hard to move and it’s clear a lot do these people don’t want to move

But...we have? I am literally here talking to you, there are multiple official accounts and loads of FT journalists post regularly on here.

The FT feels like the exception tbh I’m making blanket statements in 300 characters or less and yes they come with caveats I need to just go back to pottery and history feeds more as a resolution

I think it hit tipping point post 2010ish? Probably 2012 was peak impact then once they did start relying on it in the mid-10s it was frankly annoying because it became a de facto customer service centre for big business
