I'm just gonna say the amount of peacefulness that these large rallies where essentially nobody was in charge is stunning and fantastic.The media doesn't seem to be too happy though… Definitely looking for any violence they can play up. But the story should be how unbelievably wonderful it all went.
Exactly! I almost got convinced to not go to the Phoenix protest or take my kids because everyone was saying it would be dangerous. It was peaceful and full of kind people offering water at every turn. Glad I went!

Each protest I've gone to this year has been a much-needed shot of optimism. I don't know where we're going, but today was heartening to experience.
The idea that in the USA the government can literally kidnap and disappear you but protesters have to be "polite and well-behaved" is itself baffling to me. In France there would be whole streets on fire and that would be an understandable reaction to a betrayal of democracy.
But the goal is to convince the ballast of society that your cause is righteous. If they get scared, they will support the calls for "Law and Order". This isn't theoretical, this is exactly what got Nixon elected in 1972 by a landslide. The goal is to be effective: so take note of your audience.

they're not going to do anything that elevates the perceived power of the people over this administration - not after months of eggshell-walking, fence-sitting, and outright lying - because it would confirm and embolden us even more against *them* too the media also has power it wants to keep

The only ones engaged in violence was the LAPD and some guy in Salt Lake who shot and injured a protester during peaceful demonstration.
I’m actually surprised by how non-violent it was today. I expected the right to get it going. The real violence occurred overnight though, and may they RIP. 💙

Yes!! I went to an event in Georgia (not the big one in Atlanta) with well over 1000 people, and it was incredible. It was 100% peaceful, full of American flags and people helping each other, sharing water and snacks. The mood was… dare I say… hopeful.
Old school face to face contact with your neighbors. Funny how we could rediscover that there's power in that. But there is. And these rallies are helping to wake a whole new generation up to that fact. It's good for our political system.

So glad you went to a protest and saw for yourself how peaceful they are. The hype about violent protests is false. Every protest I've been to has been well attended by senior citizens, families with children in strollers, etc. Worst thing I saw is a large dog barking its head off at another dog.

Absolutely agree. It's a dereliction of duty. Obviously I have a news background and we would have covered the hell out of this in 1990. The media is a different animal now. (It was always "if it bleeds it leads", but now it's like "if there's no blood there's no story"). Just awful.
