Subtle thing, but most muppet performers almost exclusively move their thumb for mouth movements. After all, only your lower jaw moved when you talk. It's a small thing but it goes a long way towards Muppets feeling more lifelike.

Idk, from looking at a bunch of reference, seems like maybe that's done sOmetimes, but most of the time they just move both, the way a hand naturally wants to.
