when asked a tough question, a Republican will 1) lie to your face 2) answer honestly no matter how badly it polls or 3) shamelessly change the subject. this is a strength, not a weakness, as opposed to the gee I don't know hemming and hawing Democrats give in response to any remotely tough question

This! I’ve noticed this for decades. They state things with utter certitude, regardless of their level of knowledge. The more honest of them will readily admit they are wrong when it’s pointed out. But it’s the self-confidence of their utterances that moves the needle.
