I think he would be an easier opponent than Trump but with that said I find him infinitely more loathsome and I already infinitely hate Donald Trump.

Trump is barely a person, he's a manifestation of TV. Vance had a person inside him and he drowned that person in a bathtub to be like Trump. Easily worse.
Vance knows he's evil and revels in it, but that's way too complex a series of thoughts for Donald Trump to really have
Precisely. In a real way, Trump never had the chance to be anything but what he is. J.D. Vance wakes up every morning and chooses this.
Trump’s lying stems from an addled simple attention seeking mind that is barely able to discern reality from fiction. Vance lies because he revels in it. He’s that sartre quote on antisemitism
Yeah I think while it does not absolve Trump of his choices you have to realize that so much of his life has kind of just, carried him along because he acts the way he does. He didn't do anything special or clever, he is just a bully and a cheat who can be loud and that unfortunately gets you far
Why would he ever need to change or be any less ignorant? the world rolled over him for 80 years. Every court case, every failed business decision has gone his way because apparently if you just never apologize and keep throwing money at your problems you're untouchable.
Maybe he did once upon a time, now? He's a hollow man filled by the will of other hollow men. I don't think he has any knowledge of what he personally wants outside of minimizing pain. He strikes me as a man whose sense of agency has rotted away through lack of use.
they're both sick men, but Vance is sick in a worse way
Vance is filled with pathological self-loathing that he wants to inflict on everyone as a kind of punishment for making him feel this way.
He blames the country for his mother’s dysfunction and the way it ruined his childhood, and relishes the thought of making others feel the way he did.
Think he blames his mom because she didn’t achieve like him. The book was his airing of grievances against her. Some friends touted the book as a way to understand Trump voters. I thought it showed Vance as the whining pouty child he is - describes MAGATs perfectly! Friends were right!
It’s that and a classic bad dad/no dad i must dominate others to account for my feelings of helplessness
weird how these guys *all* had bad/absent dads
back in childhood summers out at the beach I watched the PBS series "The American President" on VHS and I used to joke that every time they skipped back to the section on childhood it began "his father was a cold, distant, and demanding man"
And just think, these are the guys telling us how we should raise our boys.
Gotta fill that dad-shaped hole. Him and Joe Rogan should get a room.
It’s time to explain to everyone what a Manchurian Candidate is and how JD is that man.
He knows he’ll never be good enough for the rich guys who paid for his entry He’ll never be one of them, always on the outside, forever the dogsbody who himself is told to be grateful for what he’s been given Because it came be taken away at any time
I come back to this again and again, Vance went to Yale Law, he could have done absolutely anything he wanted, and he has chosen... this.
Trump has a serious personality disorder, Vance has chosen to develop one to get ahead, which is just vastly more heinous.
The Know Your Enemy pod on Vance covered this, his choosing, so well.
He's loathsome in the way that his eventual Big Beautiful Day will be more of a "Oh, yeah. That asshole. Good, fuck him" instead of a spontaneous celebration.
he's the one who's ungrateful, a wretched product of cosmopolitan society's unfortunate tendency for self-flagellatory affirmative action for mediocre conservatives who now aims to destroy that entire society to make everyone live through the childhood he hated
vance’s admission to yale was, from the perspective of its elite gatekeepers, about the same as buying a painting from that elephant that can hold a paintbrush, and they probably treated him roughly the same way.
I agree. Vance wouldn't be anywhere without the enthusiastic support of the establishment he either wants to control or destroy. There's nothing to him except ambition, an authoritarian streak, and an ability to tell lies with confidence.
NYT Op-Ed page’s raison d’etre
Vance and Clarence Thomas really seem held together by the same resentments. And the same hate for Yale Law
People are saying that Vance's Sugar Daddy Peter Thiel has a gratitude fetish. That Vance wears his eyeliner how Thiel likes it, and now Vance is asking for gratitude for Thiel's kink? True? Who knows, but we can all agree that Vance is a weird guy, so who knows.
I wouldn't have a beer with him
i would so i could fling it in his face
or be silly with it on the back of his cranium
mamdani is trying to be mayor of nyc (probably one of the worst jobs in municipal goverment) bc he loves the city and wants it to improve. how is that not gratitude??
Trump is pathologically incapable of empathy. Vance is capable of empathy, has demonstrated that in the past, and makes a deliberate choice to never, ever, ever use that empathy, which feels so much worse
Not sure Vance is capable of empathy. To me, he mimics empathy very well. He's a very good actor.
