I am stuck on chapter three and now live there forever more
Last month I found a project that I completed in 2013 & for some reason abandoned, probably lost in the plains. In a blaze of inspiration, I edited w/a razor & now polishing the design for self publishing. I wonder how long that’s going to take. Out of the chest doesn’t mean out of the hand. 😩

Textbook author/editor here: That’s quite the accurate statement!
Apologies for this tangent, but how did you (or does one) find their way into textbook editing? That sounds like something I could do.
Become an expert in your field, select topic, organize expert colleagues to each write a chapter or two, prepare a proposal to a publisher, once accepted, prepare an edited high quality manuscript, meet agreed deadlines, hope others buy it and find it useful. Repeat for the next edition and so on.

Getting a publisher for a textbook is likely easier than for a novel. No experience with novels.

Laziness, procrastination or insecurity was never an issue with the handful of my books that have been published. I am a well trained artist, not a writer. You paint or write even when you don't feel like it because that's what it means to be a professional. Creativity is not magic. It's hard work.

I know I have a book in me. I also know it won’t sell. So … no interest in feeding my ego with a book nobody will ever read.
And here I sit in my kitchen looking at the desk in the lounge with a foreboding feeling of the next couple of years.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Spend an hour or two writing them down. Tomorrow, read them back and spend an hour (no more) developing the characters, noting down the most gloriously batsh*t ideas and developing them. Don't push too hard, just jot them all down and before too long a few words will become a flow....and enjoy it.

Start slow, for me at least. The flow comes and goes but when the words come racing, that hour I forced myself to sit down and reflect is vital in opening the floodgates. When that tide is receding, it's just an hour to work through and it can spark ideas for tomorrow.
also I don't write daily. turns my brain to mush. I'm not the only one who finds "write every day!" bad advice.

The first acquisitions editor I sent my non-fiction book to loved the idea and sent it to 7 external SMEs for feedback. Quite positive, but after he took it to an internal meeting he told me the publisher has marketability concerns. Now it’s waiting for feedback from a second publisher.

I literally have so many story ideas in my head since I was in 7th grade. But I just can't do the quiet part. I don't know why. I get great ideas and concepts but writing out the scenes seems impossible and I get the ick from the dialog I try to write. I'm also horrible at grammar and punctuation.

In many ways no bad thing. There are already too many books in the world - even if some missing ones would have been works of towering genius. Trouble is, the quest you describe was a test. Now unpublishable rubbish is poured out over social media - you don't even need to know what a paragraph is.

find local writing group at a library, coffee shop, or bookshop. they'll tell you what to do.
It means find other writers, either in a group or individually, and read and (thoughtfully, honestly) critique each other's work. It's been invaluable to me.

My problem is that I have worldbuilding in me, and even (to a certain extent) characters in me, but an actual plot not so much. Also the whole laziness, procrastination, and insecurity thing.
I used to chat GPT to write a kid's book because I'm too lazy to type and punctuate properly I don't know if I'll ever do anything with it.

I love worldbuilding on its own. It doesn't have to be in the service of anything else. That said, looking up something you need to know for a story isn't necessarily a rabbit hole. It can be useful! My method is to remember the question I asked and need an answer to. Avoid side-quests.

My trick was not to tell anyone I was writing it until it got published on the Kindle store. The second part of it was setting a future publishing date on the Kindle Direct Publishing site and knowing that I had to upload the manuscript by then.

I few years ago, I wrote a book no one has read. With no experience, mind you and learning as I wrote it at the same time. It's hard, but you just need to persevere, if you want to write it badly enough. Will anybody, ever read it? I don't know. Maybe....🫣

Seems to be a barrier at the edge of the Land of Laziness. I have climbed to the top several time and I can see that vast Plains of Procrastination stretching out endlessly. When I am up there I think to myself that I can do this. I can march across that barren land, but then a gust of wind... sigh
