Plenty of opinion out there that they are coming so Zelensky does not get ambushed by the White House. I think something more profound is going on. We will probably find out in a few weeks.

Quite possible. Then Europe, Ukraine, Canada etc. will need to cement a new defence alliance. One that is not hindered by what the US wants.

And I think the American people will not look kindly at Trump abandoning Ukraine. The people love a good underdog story, especially one that lets us vaguely think of ourselves as still a force for good in the world, this will not play well

The problem is that EU/UK assistance has been important for Ukraine’s resistance, but in the wider picture of the long term outcome, European leaders aren’t willing (and able) to commit enough to turn the tide. US and Russia see them as an irritant but mostly as irrelevant

Me too. There is no way they all cleared their schedules in less than 24 hours to just come to be in solidarity with Zelensky. Something that scared them to their core went down at that Friday summit.

Yes, the rest of Europe should and is very afraid of the Trump-Putin alliance. But attendance today allows them to voice those fears, but likely won’t change the outcome today or over the coming months as to how much the US capitulates to Russia
