Yes, and Adley was already starting from a much more comfortable financial situation, so he had little motivation to settle for anything early.

And Mike Elias is risk averse as hell so an extension offer for a catcher which takes him into his early 30s wouldn’t be for an amount Adley was going to want to take. Because he’d factor in potential decline in performance or a move to DH, which he should not at his age.
