The coalition doesn't abandon; that particular member of it does.
The coalition doesn't abandon; that particular member of it does.
Is he not advocating that "the coalition" abandon those things? Seems to me he doesn't hold any progressive positions at all, and has only ever advocated for any on the basis that they're electorally popular and therefore cynically useful.
Seems to me that he’s advocating that progressives do politics. Most of his agenda falls to the left of the American political divide.
Liz Cheney "falls to the left of the Amercian political divide" right now, but calling her a progressive would be extremely silly. I think he's mostly advocating that progressives shut up and vote for whatever candidate or platform he likes.
That’s semantics. Use whatever term you prefer for “group who currently supports us more often than not”. The question isn’t whether Yglesias is correct, it’s whether he’s in our coalition.
Is Liz Cheney in "our coalition"?
the *entire point* of Liz Cheney's salience in U.S. politics was that she occupied the exact rightmost edge of the anti-Trump effort the capital's under military occupation, citizens are being disappeared by a paramilitary are you serious with that question? on Bluesky? ffs
So, is Liz Cheney a progressive, or are there simply more than just progressives in "our coalition"? Because if it's the latter, you need to provide evidence for MattY being a progressive outside of the fact that he's "in our coalition".
I also think you should also take a good hard look at what Liz Cheney actually accomplished in the Coalition, and then ask yourself how much sense it makes to include the Liz Cheneys of the coalition at the discussion table.
Yglesias is in our coalition, use whatever descriptors you like for who currently belongs in group. Cheney was extremely useful in j6 hearings, was of dubious use during the campaign. You seem generally uncomfortable with the fluidity of these things.
I just think it's really weird how you've shifted to the goalposts from "MattY is on the rightward fringe of progressivism", to "MattY is in our coalition and so is Cheney, and trying to dig any deeper than that is semantics." Like, if you don't think MattY is a progressive you can just say it lol.
