it's been years since i saw it, but it was one of those films where i kept waiting for it to get good and that never happened. plus anytime tarantino has a character play Author's Mouthpiece, the point that the character is making is so dumb that i start wondering if he's doing a bit

That's very understandable and valid, normal people don't speak with so umm...I guess I'd say 'theatrically'? I felt that during the Superman monologue.

that one is bad even for him, like the takeaway from superman is 1) objectively wrong and 2) specifically the kind of wrong that Film Guys love because a film guy proves his bona fides to his fellows by watching the same movies everybody else does and then making the goofiest interpretation possible

Yeeeaaah at their core his films are really "filmy", in that it has a slight air of trying too hard to impress or reference. Personally I still really enjoy the film but you're definitely right x3 Thank you for the 10:00pm film chat! <3

thank YOU!! fwiw i was a big fan of 1, and i have a deep affection for david carradine and his awful, awful filmography so having him in 2 was great. he almost sold that superman speech! that's an oscar-worthy performance right there

YEA David really carried that character, gave Bill a lot of weight despite hardly seeing him in the first volume. The character could have easily been overhyped and turn out to be a disappointment, but not with David playing that character :3
