In fact, I think the implication was that Wayland Yutani knew about the crash site and set up the colony near it on purpose as an experiment/to get the colonists infected.

I dont think thats true, iirc the implication was Burke acted on what ripley said hoping its true as a means of using it to climb the corporate ladder and then after they encountered the xenomorphs WY high level gets involved maybe maybe not. Remember Burke has to smuggle them embryos in ripley/newt
