If she had a valid visa and passport then the detention at the airport in the USVI would have been quick. But she didn’t did she.

That's your opinion. Mine, if she didn't have one, there's no way she would've even gone to the airport. But you still don't know! Maybe instead of trying to justify her death to yourself, start developing empathy for people that look different to you ✌️
I have empathy for all people. But I have respect for people who do things legally.
You have no idea what happens do you. People do that all the time. Maybe she thought she didn’t need a visa or maybe her passport was out of date or maybe she was doing something the prior administration didn’t care about
Considering she was flying domestically, she didn't need a passport! You also don't need a visa to travel domestically. Real-ID or another form of identification works. Also there was no order of removal prior to being stopped, no prior visa changes documented by ICE, she could assume she was fine
Also when I was in the usvi flying home 3 separate times in the past 7 years they check passports from us citizens and prefer that you bring a passport rather than just a drivers license
You have to be caught first to have an order of removal. Jeez. Come on man - think!
Caught for what? Existing? There's no evidence she committed a crime! Listen man you can play the what if game all day, all you're doing is telling yourself she deserved to die because of your opinion She died without justice in 10 weeks of their custody, and nothing you say will make that ok.
She wasn’t in the country legally. Why is that so difficult.
I also don't get why you feel the need to play devil's advocate here. Why defend ICE? When I bring up that you are actively justifying her death, you go straight back to insisting she's a criminal, thus proving my point. So to what end? Why keep spinning in circles?
Because we need ice- why is it that protecting our borders is viewed negatively
And, if there's evidence of ICE doing the opposite of protecting - what then? Or, if ICE commits horrible acts against communities through the process - is that somehow ok to you? Neither is ok. Full stop. Unchecked power leads to abuse, and it's already happening. We need to protect PEOPLE.
There is a judicial process and if someone’s due process or constitutional rights have been violated they have the ability to sue. Happened with Kilmer Abrego and in the end he is going to be deported again. If someone is scooped up and shouldn’t be we have a vast group of defnse attorneys available
I feel much less safe with an ICE agent than an immigrant, so I fundamentally disagree there. Also, CBP exists and is more associated with border patrol and protection there, so ICE is kind of redundant if you think they're protecting the borders. So you still fail to show why ICE should exist
CBP has a job that is different from ICE. Your arguments are becoming ridiculous. ICE is doing the work to remove those here illegally that the prior administration allowed in unfettered. The current administration provided everyone with an opportunity to self deport via CBP-HOME app.
1. Nobody knows that because there was no hearing 2. Plenty of what-if imaginations could swing either way (what about HRIFA, for example) but we don't have the facts. 3. Not having the facts when people are DYING in cells is a problem! Why is that difficult for you?
You can’t have a hearing unless the person is detained. Thats like saying the police can’t arrest me for violating a law without first having a hearing. They see me punch someone and they have to wait for a hearing before they can arrest me - come on
You're comparing apples to oranges - a criminal offense of assault is treated differently than a civil offense. My understanding, civil offenses don't require detainment before trial, unless there is a detainment hearing that determined them a flight risk. And again, Marie had none of these.
Not to mention, even if someone is detained, it's with the expectation that they will receive proper care and that the facility will be up to standard. That's another issue. The facility she died at was even audited 2 months before she died there, and the auditor noted the long response times
