Chief rabbi? It's these sorts of people that make others embrace atheism.
It's intelligence and compassion that make others embrace atheism.
That too.
Distraction setting: MAXIMUM
The Rabbi is a fool. He's also a nasty man drunk on zionist thuggery. He will be remembered as a man who brings shame to his own position as he ignores the genocide of Palestinians.
He thinks he's protecting his people. He's not. It's hard to not just hate one side when something horrible like Gaza is happening. It pays to stretch your mind. I put my energy on hating Netanyahu and his group. But I do know this is not all coming from evil. Even when the results are evil.
Net is a callous careerist. Its hard to take how, after decades of apartheid, land theft+ violence against Palestinians in general that any blame can be laid at their door. The chief Rabbi has used digusting, unforgiveable language to describe palestinians. There is unalloyed evil in him.
I think I've heard of him, and that is not acceptable behavior. Fanatics and sociopaths should have no leadership role in any religion. I was assuming he was a more normal pro Israel protestor. My mistake.
I wonder why he doesn't think it's more important to talk about the standing orders to IDF forces to shoot civilians queuing for aid.
This portrayal of arrogant indifference in the face of the IDF's opening slaughter of unarmed civilians is quite disgusting
Just an idea, given they're so keen for us to stop talking about the Genocide in Gaza. Have Israel maybe tried... I dunno, call me old fashioned here, but have they tried, like... Not murdering thousands of people because something something God and land?
They want to ethnically cleanse the Middle East of Arabs/Muslims. They also need to keep Netanyahu in power.
But on the same day the IDF were quite happy to decide 'Death to 30 Palestinians relaxing at a seafront café' - doesn't he think that is a shame upon the Jewish State? Now scale that shame up to 56,000 Palestinians.
It's a total disgrace that a religious leader conflates opposition to Netayahu's war crimes with racism, when he has no evidence at all to back up that claim. It's a nasty smear.
Indeed. In fact it's the Chief Rabbi's stance on this situation that could actually PROMOTE antisemitism!
People who set themselves up as a representative of any faith or ethnic group need to be very careful when throwing stones at others.
How do you say fuck of in Zion?
It's not anti Semitic any more than chanting "kill the Waffen SS' in the 1940s would have been anti German.
Exactly what I said but it’s the Israelis being criticised this time and you know that’s not allowed, any criticism, however justified, is anti semitism.
Not true completely. Just use the Israeli Government. At least with sensible human beings. I know the anti-Semitic, US government is using bs for their own gains. But when someone frames it as the gov. I'm good with it.
Yes I agree, sorry, when I say Israelis I mean the state not the people.
No worries. Israelis, to me, means the people of the country. So I always refer to the gov and their dear leader. My daughter is adopted from China, so I'm careful to say gov with that country too.
Yes it can be a minefield! I’ve never had a problem with Israeli people, I’ve been there twice and liked most of the people I met but the government is a different matter. It must be the same for you with China I imagine.
And being Jewish with Israel. Still, most people their are unhappy with what's taken place in Gaza. Some groups there are awful to Palestinians. Government change would help there, too. There's no excusing it. It's become genocide. I just know someone's not being antisemitic when they say gov.
Absolutely, he’s lying and he knows it. A man of God, eh?
We’ve all had enough of the selective moralising from people who really should know better. Plenty of both secular & religious Jews speak out against this genocide- why the hell can’t he?
Agreed, and it is designed to exploit the faux outrage and ride the wave of self-righteous indignation of our right wing media and politicians. A finely calibrated response of a Zionist stooge, amplified by a callow media and establishment.

He's a staunch Israel supporter. Denies there is genocide going on in Gaza. Claims that there is a direct attempt to wipe out the Jewish state. Article in the Jewish Chronicle, owned by Sir Robbie Gibb, right-wing Tory Brexiter and ex BBC news editor.
Ahem: Mirvis also condemned Corbyn's successor... Starmer, when his government announced a partial limitation on arms sales to Israel : "This announcement feeds the falsehood that Israel is in breach of International Humanitarian Law, when in fact it is going to extraordinary lengths to uphold it."
What?!!!!!!! Israel is committing genocide, it is bombing people waiting at food banks? IDF pictured laughing with dead bodies. That’s not opinion, it’s fact.
I know, the fact that he says that suggests he's not really impartial
Just shows that these ‘religious leaders’ are not honest brokers?
Time to proscribe the Chief Rabbi and the Board of Deputies for supporting genocide
Ephraim Mirvis is a national shame

Religious leaders liek the rabbi make me remember why I'm a staunch atheist.
Please understand that the ultra orthodox represent a tiny minority of American Jewery.I’m Jewish.I was raised conservative and now I’m reform.Among LOTS of ideology, I disagree w ultra orthodox on abortion.(They are anti)
I don't think it was Jew hatred. Like most religions it's the fanatics that are the problem. When you have a leader propped up by these fanatics then there is a problem. The same issue occurs in other faiths and religions. These people need to be called out.
It's always the fanatics that are the problem. In any religion.
Is it their intention to be permanently outraged, to obfuscate, to wear us down?
Yep👍

👏👏👏
THIS is your spiritual leader?
How often can we say that speaking out against Netanyahu killing the people of Gaza is not antisemitic.
Absolutely Jasper.
Everyone’s a fascist these days. Even if they don’t realise it.
I thought Nigel Farage is our national shame.
The IDF, on Netanyahu's orders, are deliberately targeting innocent civilians. So, maybe the Chief Rabbi should wind his fucking neck in, and speak out about what the IDF are doing.
THIS!!!!!!!!

Chief Rabbi should apologise for supporting genocide.
Chief, do you agree with what is happening to the Palestinians? Isn't it excessive, disproportionate, unjust? Where would God ask to stand? Moral leaders should lead, popstars should entertain.
First statement 100% agree. 2nd: profoundly disagree. Protest is at the heart of all music, including pop. Just ask Bob Dylan, Shostakovich, Kurt Weill, Pussy Riot. Glastonbury has become relevant again after yrs of being not much more than a middle class summer diversion.
Art criticises life, and I agree with your statement of protest being central to music (i grew up in the 80s Specials, UB40, Erasure) however chanting death to the IDF ( a conscripted force, young people made to serve in the military) I am not sure that's a valid argument.
That then is a different argument. Not that “pop should entertain.” Whether the chant was acceptable or not is a matter of opinion. Given what the IDF are doing, with zero objection from our governments & that it was directed against a military organisation not an ethnic or religious group,
In was commonplace in the Late 60's and 70's for US Citizens were were conscripted and who didn't want to Serve in a War that they had no interest in, to flee the Country ... israelis have that option too ... but Don't ... Explain !
There is a growing refuser movement & a solidarity organisation which runs out of Washington www.refuser.org
Yes but few avail of it 99% join up
I know, it’s pitiful, such is the extent of the brainwashing of Israeli society, but it’s important to acknowledge those who have the courage to do this.
very very very Few Fo ... when they do they make Headlines !
I agree.
The border between canada and the US is long, porous and by late 1960s early 70s war fatigue, counter culture ideology and the innate injustice, made it easier for draftees to escape. Not sure how many safe havens exist for jews outside of Israel in the middle east or how porous the border is
No but Israelis can travel pretty freely. Unlike Palestinians.
nor an individual it’s possible that it was. That the IDF is a conscripted army is true, but so was the army in Apartheid SA & Nazi Germany. “I was only following orders” is not an admissible defence in The Hague. What is indefensible is the outrage
expressed by our govt & RW press about this, Kneecap & Palestine Action, when not a word is said about the actual genocide which they are allowing with a shake of their pathetic heads, & are complicit in. Sometimes art has to shock. That’s its job, & I think that’s what was intended.
Broadly agree with your sentiment but the govt have objected to the actions taken by Israel in Gaza & the West Bank. It just doesn't get reported much & I get it's far less than you'd like, but expressed pretty clearly & in conjunction with EU & Canada
Well said Avon.
Ta! I get a bit annoyed when the govt are unfairly blamed for stuff, but I suppose that's all part of the govt/media problem.
It’s so far short of what is needed, and when they are still actively arming Israel I’m afraid I can’t contain my cynicism. They have also backed away from recognising a Palestinian State which would give a clear message to Israel and the world.
Ok, i think i knew it would be a mistake to answer the previous, but they had actually made a statement against Israel's activities. If it's ok with you, can we just draw a line bcos i have thoughts that'll lead to a falling out & i really don't want that, we've had some lovely chats in the past 🙂
Agree Avon let’s stop it before it starts to sound like the ‘other place’.
Me too. They don’t shout out their successes loudly enough. And you are right the media are just obsessed with Reform the same as in the US with Trump.
They need a right good Malcolm Tuckering 🙂
Again very well said Avon!
Don't feel too sorry for them, remember they wanted the job, they knew what they were getting and they are arrogant enough to believe that they know better than everyone else. But they are not tory bigots
No, they’re Labour bigots.
I don’t believe that all labour government mps are bigots anymore than all Tory’s are. I will make an exception for Reform! Any government in power now would have problems with the migrant crisis. Torys tried to sort it with the barge fiasco and Rwanda neither got off the ground and cost millions.
Soldiers are workers in uniform. Shouting death to the acronym means death to individuals, which means continue the cycle, more death. Following the ANCs Truth and Reconcilation Commission is the way forward but both sides need to want that. And Israel needs to stop the killing now.
I think what she’s saying is musicians and artists weren’t arrested and censored
Have they been censored, arrested or have they raised their profile. Perhaps am I being too cynical but I have had my eye on the chinless, wide mouthed frog from Clacton. Gary Lineker was censured and the BBC should be ashamed for it.
