Also, while I appreciate the reporter did the investigatory work to contact all the officials for comment… she fucking failed to report their political opinions and social media posts. That was kept out the article. I bet the author is MAGA, too, who didn’t think this could happen to Hwhite people!

My question is why these reporters don't write stories with this framing about immigrants who aren't white. a LOT of people fall into this exact situation. They all deserve to be treated with this much empathy.

i have filed that form myself and I am telling you, he did not "forget". It's an expensive and difficult step - most likely, they couldn't afford it. the framing is nonsense. he KNEW he had been undocumented since 2016. That's not something you just "forget". He thought he was special.
