My understanding is this isn’t uncommon. The JAGs I graduated law school with did stints in a USA office. That was twenty years ago. I believe several were detailed to DC when Jan 6 cases flooded the dockets.

JAGs sometimes try federal cases that take place on military bases. It’s not like they have totally no experience. But it’s very slight.

True. But, this sounds like they will be handling DC law cases, which is a bigger leap (although the national park cases often apply state law). It's a fair point, though.

Oh yeah, no, I agree that the DC law cases are going to be a shitshow: DC law is far ahead of federal/military on many rights and just *different* in other areas. And even when they have tried park/base cases, they’ve usually been paired with normal AUSAs, not acting alone.
