Talking to friends yesterday and we were discussing how in the enthusiasm of youth you love bands (or other art), then peer pressure persuades you that you were wrong, then as you grow up, you realise that you were right all along. Supertramp for me, but I never abandoned Rush. Sorry Supertramp.
Yes, very similar in my case. Not the peer pressure bit, I never bothered about that, but certainly went off the prog stuff when UK dance music started and took off. Now I like both very much.

There's an interview in the 'Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage' doc where Matt Stone says something along the lines of 'Even if you hated Rush in the 70s and 80s, you have to give it up to them now, otherwise you're just a dick.'
Truth. I have posted elsewhere of my utter soul crushing disappointment of whatever TOTP dancers gyrating to Spirit of Radio instead of seeing the Canadian Gods Themselves on the TV.

I think the very worst was Legs & Co's 'interpretation' of 'Suicide is Painless (The theme from M*A*S*H)'. Now, that was horrific.
I've never knowingly heard a Rush track A moderator on a software forum 20/25 odd years ago was a huge fan of them and he was an arsehole towards me so I decided I'd never listen to Rush

Peer pressure and I were never friends. I was(am) a Dead Head who loves metal and many other genres. I hated Rush when I was young, but I went to a concert when the only song I knew was 'Tom Sawyer.' They've grown on me since. 😁
