The ones who didn't tended to be those that the system benefited, or who were comfortable bending the rules enough to make them bearable. But honestly I know so many people who have walked away as adults. More than not.

so maybe once you had adult 'eyes' the extremeness made it easier to leave(?) and not a soft exit. I didn't grow up in that, I'm a little older, graduating from xian coll in late 80s, reading Schaefer, I knew the Right was at work, but I didn't think it was wrong till 'faith based initiatives'
