This was the extremely foreseeable result(and then some) of a (or no) vote for Trump. I do not care what people's excuses are any longer, what's done is done. Fuck them.

The point is that your premise kills millions of potential democratic voters, which, while possibly satisfying in an abstract rage, is strategically somewhat shsky

My premise isn't killing anybody. They are doing it to themselves whether I lash myself to them or not. I am not wealthy. My hospital that saved my life is going under. This isn't abstract for me.

I watched them hand Trump a knife that they hoped was pointed elsewhere and are now whining that there's a knife-shaped object lodged in their back.

Democratic voters and ineligible voters are doing it to themselves?

The phrase you're looking for is "people who didn't vote and were fine with Trump winning"

As linked to data elsewhere in thread, this is not particularly a phrase i am looking for

Look, if hospitals are going to close (let's assume they are) the choice is which ones to keep open. Do Democrats benefit more by keeping open hospitals which support reliable voters who have consistently votes? Or by keeping open the ones which support fascists and some hypothetical maybe voters?

that is in fact the math you would have to do (which is decidedly not the premise of the thread, fwiw) bsky.app/profile/ouji...

tvanl @tvanl.bsky.social

The math is not as difficult as you think it is. Hypothetical maybe sorta almost kinda potential votes don't matter. Just sort by margin and fund hospitals from the top down until you run out of money.

remember that the point of this is to win votes; if you're killing off GOP voters, democratic voters, and democratic-leaning non-voters indiscriminately, i think the math (of this deeply silly purely imaginary exercise) is actually quite complicated

People can leave those rural communities without hospitals and move to cities. If they choose to die instead, that’s a choice they made for themselves. You act like these people aren’t adult human beings with agency.

Millions of people actually have very few resources to relocate, unfortunately. It can be quite difficult

I’d rather find relocation services than fund rural hospitals. A one-time expense, and then we can put the resources being pumped into rural hospitals into hospitals in cities that serve far more people and also do important research.

An interesting premise although not a proposal made in the thesis of this thread, hence not something I'm arguing

Clay Ranck @clayranck.bsky.social

Well, I’m arguing that you would actually cause more people to suffer and die by continuing to pour money into small, rural hospitals that serve relatively few people instead of using that money to help way more people in cities.

Possible Democratic voters that found Trump acceptable? I don't understand why you don't understand this is happening regardless of your feelings. Trump is President. The choice was already made. I choose to enjoy these people getting precisely what they voted for.

It also ignores the millions of non voters who are simply ineligible. Children, non citizens, etc. i suppose we can let God sort them out though. Blood attainder by proximity

How do you propose extracting minors and otherwise disabled people from their lawful guardians? Oh, just keep shoveling money at them and they might come around.
