I think most people who sat out intentionally did so because “anyone but Trump” isn’t a strong motivating message, especially when 4 years of not-Trump didn’t make the danger go away at all. Republicans winning will always be an existential threat, it can’t be a perpetual excuse to do the minimum.

Maybe it’s because I 👂 his fascist rhetoric in 2015, but I wasn’t ever going to vote for him. I didn’t need to be overly motivated bc I’ve seen and heard that type of stuff before him. I don’t think the DNC leaders understand that they need to be like FDR was. But even he wasn’t perfect.

I hate the idea that you have to have a winning message. American politics is just dumb.

We could fix it by making voting easier, or even making voting mandatory, and implementing ranked choice, but unfortunately a large part of our country also runs on voter suppression and maintaining the Dem/Rep dichotomy

That’s certainly true. No idea why we haven’t tried it yet. I mean, if the Democrats did that, they could do exactly what they did in NY state, but on a national scale and they would still be able to have a 2-party system. Though I don’t understand y any1 would want this GOP.

Energizing your base has always been an important part of politicking and the Democrats seem to have forgotten that, and now they’re blaming everyone else. Biden and the Democrats could have prevented all of this by jailing Trump on Inauguration Day after his failed coup.

I’m not sure it’s possible to do it within 14 days but they let it drag on for 4 years, needlessly. They did so much wrong long before 2024, especially this, that it only made things worse. I can imagine that can only dampen your base’s interest. So many better options now, too.

Oh believe me, I know that. I’m still not ever going to believe that they didn’t have the time to prosecute him. Or even appoint a special prosecutor within months. Garland is the weakest AG in 🇺🇸 history, and that includes the 1st one. DOJ never prosecuted the leaders of the CSA either. 🤷
