They won’t win any votes because the people they’re trying to appeal to will vote for Reform. This is going to ultimately cause a schism in the Labour Party unless Starmer/McSweeny and several of the front bench can be replaced.

TheOccasionalTog. @theocassionaltog.bsky.social

It won't. The RW rags will support this and claim it doesn't go far enough. Labour will commission some polling and that polling will show these cuts to be favourable. What's getting to me is the number of Labour voters on here saying 'well, that's a bit shit but look at all the good stuff.' 1/2

apr 29, 2025, 4:52 am • 3 0 • view

Even when you make them aware of the sheer devastation all this will cause they don't want to discuss it be they DO want to discuss 'all the good stuff that hasn't cut through because the Comms haven't been good.' It feels like we're not being listened to, by the very ppl who should have our backs.

Honestly feels like they are mostly supportive of these cuts under the misapprehension that we are somehow making these real world numbers up and that the Labour Party won't leave people in destitution. Then immediately go back to discussing 'Can't expect immediate change after 14 yrs of Tories.'

Can't help thinking it's a wider plan, we'll hoping because they haven't shown any compassion so far. They'll keep the 4 point thing but drop the requirement to have a PIP award to be able to claim the health element of UC. But massively cut the amount you receive for the HE. Saving on both UC 1/2
