I was simply asking you why you thought it should be repealed.
I was simply asking you why you thought it should be repealed.
I didn't say it should be, at least, not in this discussion. I *am* saying that Starmer has the power to do so and hasn't used it- so it's his responsibility now.
I think it should be repealled as I do not want to gave to give my sensitive data to third party companies that I do not know anything about, what they are going to do with it, sell it etc. I am having to give this up to read Redit, listen to Spotify etc. It is not just about porn.
No, it's mostly about safeguarding children.
Safeguarding children is the one single thing it is least about.
And it simply does not achieve that
It's not perfect and some will circumvent it but not all. Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater because it inconveniences people's wanking habits.
The people who are the target - children - can circumvent it just as easily as adults, so the law is not providing any protections while at the same time significantly increases risks to adults who don't wish to circumvent them using a vpn.
There are side effects too. If you don't authenticate on social media sites, your feeds at at the mercy of someone else's definition of 'adult' which is likely to be more globally conservative that the uk law requires
I'm sure it's a coincidence, but since the law came in, my bluesky feed (which has not been authenticated) seems to be inundated with photo and videos of sexually suggestive adults. There was always a little background, but there seems to be a big uptick.
Haven't noticed that myself, there have always been pornbots plaguing this site. Not every child knows how to use a VPN, granted many do. The act also makes revenge porn a more serious offence It's not perfect, no law is. It hasn't affected me so far apart from verifying for this site which I trust
