A thing my parents & their friends are fond of saying is that immigrants lower wages in the UK. They can't explain how, but it's an accepted fact to them & you can't argue against it, because it's a fact as far as they're concerned.
It's simple economics. When you have desperate poor people who will work for low pay, without benefits - that is who employers hire. Minimum wage in Australia is $24 an hour. Wages are high there because Australia makes immigration very difficult for low wage workers.
There's very little that's "simple" about economics. The Economy is made up of so much more than just money & numbers.
If your Government has a minimum wage, it's illegal to pay people below that wage. If employers are employing people & paying them less than the minimum wage, then it's the employers who are breaking the law, not migrants.
