So the thing that spawned this list in the first place is having friends my age (39) that didn't grow up in the US, so they aren't familiar with the 80s/90s pop music bleed that is hard-written into my DNA. Figured the best way to fix that was to hand them a curated list of bangers!

It was a wild time in the 80s where New Wave and Punk and Reggae and Hip Hop Hop and Disco were all blending together and creating unexpected chart toppers or in the case of many of songs I suggested chart placers.
