When I was ten, my great grandmother told me to be careful about my facial expressions because one day they would become permanent. She was extremely wrinkled. Turns out she was right. You show good humor and kindness as your main character. π
After Dad died it was a very terrible time. I began to notice my resting face became down turned, mouth fallen into a scowl. It's happening again π©

Today, among many other adventures, one of the Jays got into my kitchen while I was out on the patio giving peanuts to the squirrels and the flock of Jays and a few crows. I didnβt notice until the poor thing was madly trying to fly through the glass windows.
Amazingly, he didnβt knock over my two vases with roses on the window sill, and nothing else breakable. I couldnβt calm him down but I managed to guide him to the open doorβ¦ Hopefully he didnβt hurt himself! Iβve had both birds and squirrels come inside my kitchen before but never a Jay.
Usually they are too smart for that!!

When a little sparrow or junco gets inside, they try to fly through the glass & they flutter in place - itβs pretty easy to get my hands around them and quickly get them outside. The squirrels run all around the place, sometimes halfway up the walls,
but if they are squirrels who have been visiting me for a long time, they know my voice and I can talk to them and calm them down and they seem to understand that I am here to help them get back outside & they come towards me and out the door. That always amazes me but they do seem to understand.
You have such a remarkable relationship with these little ones! Yesterday I was watching a Mallard who was slowly following a squirrel around. The squirrel kept going back and forth and the duck would change course to keep him in her line of sight. I have pictures but was unable to get a good one.
The current administration is having that same effect on me:(

She lived in Nebraska and probably got a lot of sun. She looked like an apple head doll. She gave me a newspaper clipping and she had written on it βThis is what we wore when I was a girl.β It was a picture of a woman in full length hoop skirts.
I only met her that one time, when I was old enough to remember. She told me about living in the South as poor farmers during the Civil War. They later farmed in Nebraska and Kansas. The Civil War wasnβt as long ago as it might seem. I talked to her about her memories of it.
Now, Republicans want to rewrite history.
True and unfortunately they seem to be succeeding by destroying so many records.
I suspect that there are a lot more histories and records in private hands than they have any idea. Our history wonβt be so easily erased. Itβs hard to believe what weβre seeing them do to this country, day by day. I donβt wonder how Nazi Germany happened any more. π₯Ίπ₯Ίπ₯Ίπ₯Ί
I have thought exactly the same thing over the past year.
Must have been amazing to have a first-hand account from someone who lived through it. About 20 years ago I learned that my Great-Grandfather had fought in the Civil War and his name is on a statue at Gettysburg. I got a photo from the park service. Would have been nice to have met him and talked.
Itβs the kind of thing you never forget.
