The possibility of a cover-up is both on-brand and a good sign. They KNOW it all falls apart if he dies.

Mixed bag. Part of me thinks the reason republicans were so willing to let Trump run with it is some of them did not expect him to last and that Vance walks worst of it back, like tariffs and NG deployments, so that the right can keep a lot of other changes while blaming all the bad things on Trump.
Don't get me wrong, I know a lot of them are just nazis who were genuinely in full support of an isolated police state authocracy. Majority, likely. But there are enough tactical republicans who went along with it, and they might have a shot at taking control without Trump.
To them, "It's all just Trump," is an important point to sell. If Trump's health catches up with him soon, it will be critical to capitalize on instability in the republican party to start pushing back. Both to try and get some rights back, but also to prevent right wing from rebalancing.
Vance was groomed for this role, that much was clear in November. The smartest thing he could do when it happens is fire Trump's entire cabinet and hire normal Republicans with actual qualifications. Even the cultists would breathe a sigh of relief.
I fear JD Vance is just as deep in with Russia as Trump at this point. They all are. But if Trump dies, the cult spell might break. For the last 10 years, Trump has been allowed to say and do whatever he wants. Not sure the same standards will apply to someone like Vance.
