Democracy requires that policymakers are held accountable for lies and abuses. Independent expertise is thus a direct threat to the arbitrary exercise of power and the concealment of complex facts from voters. Which is why *every* authoritarian brute wages war on experts.
Democracy does not mean that every citizen performs their own neurosurgery, sets their own central bank policy, and determines their own day-by-day military deployment strategy. No voter can do all those things because they each require extensive knowledge and experience.
