Nah, I get it. They shouldn't "be responsible for it" - they should WANT to do right by the kid early on, and show love and support while helping grow by doing things like reading them stories. And if the kid "just so happens" to learn how to read along with you in the meantime, all the better <3

Like "be responsible" implies it's a damnable chore, not nurturing loved ones. Like you don't "babysit" your own kid, you parent.
