Also I can't help the chills when i think of the TV interview part. Very current in the era of Fox News and deepfakes.
I feel like even the homophobia is less of an actual bigotry and more of a "future shock" thing in it. I don't think it'll be much of a spoiler if I say that in the far future of the book, the heterosexual veteran is called "the old queer" by his young trainees, which underscores the cultural shift.
