Ugh. Just when I hoped to pick up the guitar again, I had to injure my hand. The wound alone would be bearable, but the swelling makes it hard to do anything beyond basic gestures. It's like i'm at least two fingers short.
All these are jokes, I get it. And a single joke in an unobtrusive place can really improve a story. But it will never replace the story, no matter how many beach episodes, fandom jokes and Deadpool knockoffs you cram into your writing.
If you wrote something and you know it's bad, don't try to distract from that by going all meta. If two characters get their facts mixed up, don't have the narrator be all "sure, let's go with that". Don't write anachronisms just to make the characters wonder what the hell happened. And so on.
A big request to writers, especially those who write for games and interactive/visual novels: Do NOT write bad stuff, then lampoon how bad it is. We're not fellow D&D players dying of laughter because something absurd happened at the table.
