Exactly. This is not new.
Exactly. This is not new.
Just because it's not new, does not make it okay. Lots of us have been arguing against this garbage for a long time, but keep getting treated like we encouraged it under past presidents. Or are you happy we're spending money on bombs and creating more disabled veterans?
Obama tried that. It backfired spectacularly. His refusal to do anything about the annexation of Crimea gave us the first full scale war in Europe since WW2. His refusal to do anything about the Assad atrocities gave us the Syrian war, with 600,000 civilians dead. It also created ISIS.
Yes, cause every geopolitical situation can be reduced to "xxxx tried that" with a predictable result. Life is not a pre-scripted event with an obvious branching storyline.
Disengagement and isolationism (aka “America First”) never worked. Not under Obama, not with the Neutrality Act in the 1930s when the US refused to join the fight against Nazi Germany. The idea that US can just disengage and let Russia and China fill the void is flawed and will lead to WW3.
Agreed on all points. But America LOVES to half-ass its support - leading to measures that look like they help, but ultimately make the problems worse. And here we are, doing it again.
What's the alternative? Full scale ground invasion of Iran? Would put the stop to most of the world's terrorist activity, but at what cost? It would be as bad as Afghanistan or worse. Our only hope is that the next Mahsa Amini will be enough to make Iranians rise up against their oppressors.
ROFL
You may laugh, but I believe in Iranians. Their country has over a thousand years of tradition. They have been under the boot of the current dictatorship for only 45 years. They will overcome.
I agree. They will definitely overcome.
In the end he had to bomb Syria, and send troops there, only after the situation got far worse. Which could have been avoided with a few bombs dropped on Assad's bunker years prior.
Too much money is made supporting invasions, wars, global trade to actually solve any of these problems.
Are you saying that the Military Industrial Complex did not produce anything during the Cold War, and that the vast majority of projects right now aren't to counter China, who we're not at shooting war with? A GBU-37 costs $200k NGAD's project budget is $20B, 100,000 times more.
That was quite the jump from my statement. Care to try again?
Also quite a jump from me agreeing that a pattern exists, to suggesting that I am in favor of said pattern. But you go on with your bad self.
In the fog of social media, it's hard to figure out if someone is using other leaders hawkish behavior, as a carrot or a stick.
