Most international travelers also see the fee for what it is, another extorsion scheme. International travelors already pay an "entry fee" via ESTA (ab $100).He has hit different countries in Africa with exorbitant fees for student and work visas already. So this fee is a prelude to what is coming.
The ESTA is 21 dollars (the same way you need to pay ETA in Canada) but these are not visas, but Visa Waiver that only specific countries can apply.
1/2 I know ESTA is for Visa Waiver, and it was the first part of my post. The price of $21 is the base price it used to be, now, the base price will go up to $40 and if you need to have an expedited ESTA response, then the base price starts at $90+ (as far as I remember).
2/2 The second part was about student (university) visas for some African countries where the visa fee has been heigthened to 4-figure $ amounts. My bet is that many of these university student will not be able to carry that additional burden on top of the tuition fees & cost of living.
If they have any sense, they will choose another country!
