This is how I know my dog is hungry. I enter the room. He is standing. He waits til I lie down on the couch. He waits til I take out my phone. He checks I’m using my phone. The eating may now commence.

How eating now proceeds is down to a number of factors that I am uncertain on. Options include: 1. The parade. Individual units of food are paraded around the room and crunched ceremonially. 2. Compressed parade. Mouthfuls of food are chomped over the bowl with the occasional circuit.

3. Straight chomp. An unusual option seldom employed - mainly reserved for when dog has abstained from food for a few hours, needing a proper audience and ambience (see above).
