sure the seats were nicer. on todays planes you have an astronomically higher chance of survival and they dont play muzak onboard

but consider: they maid flying boats and those are the best
Okay I can get behind this. Flying boats actually seem like they'd be a vaguely good idea these days, we need to build a large enough airliner that it actually becomes cost-efficient.
i mean, theres a lot of problems with that, most places you want airports dont have large enough bodies of water to land big flying boats
The general trend of the industry has been slowly walking back from jumbos and back towards single-aisles, simply to save on fuel costs, but I think the ideal airliner would basically be a Spruce Goose with 4 GE90s.
As the world makes an unnerving trend towards Yarvinist minarchy, many industries are gonna need to learn how to breathe without subsidies, especially since many of them are spurring that trend itself.
For example, there's yet to be a true "Private space agency" I wager, the big names like SpaceX and Blue Origin basically convert taxes to profit, some firms like Rocket Lab are more freestanding but still typically use government infrastructure.
air travel in general is a little silly to me. in a world where planes were never invented, or just commercial flight never became common, the airline seat would be a popular bdsm peril scenario
