I try to live by the rules my parents taught me and their parents taught them. Don’t deliberately hurt anyone and help those that need it. These aren’t just british values, they are the traits that make us human. I have travelled widely and most people are the same. We can’t let the idiots win.
The selfish and bigoted dont care at all about future generations or anyone else. They care about their own personal gratification here and now.
British values are not exceptional but people have been manipulated into believing it is.
You need look no further than the month of July in Northern Ireland to see how that plays out. And it does precisely zero to improve the lives of poor people and their families.

This would be the government’s job and the job of public institutions such as the BBC. Unfortunately both are failing on this metric at the moment.
The BBC’s news job, as I see it (retired journalist here) is merely to report facts, without any attempt to interpret or analyse. Currently, it’s failing in that mission. Largely because it’s terrified of politicians. Such a waste, and a crying shame.
They need to lead but everyone should do their bit by calling out divisive hate and refusing to support political parties with policies build on scapegoating and "othering" sections of our society. The "silent majority" need to speak up to reclaim their values and demonstrate the majority decency.
We are doing our bit but it doesn't help when Starmer uses a right wing platform to foment racist hatred by immitating Farage. As for the BBC they're a lost cause.

Yes, but what about in everyday personal interactions? Too many people let inappropriate, discriminatory and inaccurate claims pass without comment, or even suggest that those who do call them out should "leave off" because they don't want a confrontation or to upset their friends/family.
