Called it.
Called it.
I've been muting and blocking accounts more, I would like to keep up to date on things but listening to a lot of the pessimism and anxiety on here has not been good for my mental health.
Good fucking Lord, either an LLM is piloting that account or its an op Either way, Bluesky has the famous Nuclear Block for a reason
I've been doing the same. I want to enjoy life while being fully aware of what's going on. I also don't want to end up being like my dad who does nothing but work and read the news non stop. My poor mom have to put up with him reading them outloud.
A constantly tensed muscle doesn’t get stronger, it just gets injured.
Good point!
I’m of the same mindset as you. Like I genuinely hate a lot of things going on in the world right now but I don’t want it to overwhelm me.
Yeah, because to quit having fun and instead being doom and gloom and freaking out 24/7 every time something miserable in the world happens is the way.
JESUS Christ. 🤣
Best advice regarding political rage bait: “Focus on what you CAN control.” Like, the stuff you’re already doing. Vote, donate to a campaign/cause you believe in, have those conversations with friends/relatives when you MUST, and realize that posting on social media does FUCK ALL to help. 1/2
In other words, to borrow some advice shared with me by a childhood friend, when it comes to making a change (ANY change): DON’T TALK ABOUT IT! BE ABOUT IT! And also, stay out of my happy place. I do the work I can outside of social media.
Are things serious? Yes. At the same time, people need a place they can step away from it. We need to be able to hold our basic sanity. We don't need to be talking politics, especially rage bait politics 24/7. We need our relaxing places for friends and fun. Basic human needs
That's the thing, it's like none of these people know what my stance is, what I do in real life to help, etc. They just think if you're not posting about it 24/7 on friggin' social media you are the problem. It's dense.
Most people yelling on social media won't even step outside to help another person anyway. They don't do any community service, no food line help, no checking on their neighbors. But they will post a random article and scream about it, and at everyone who isn't screaming with them.
That’s the thing with all social media, people will judge your entire existence on just one post regardless of how much of Good Samaritan or upstanding members of society you may be in real life, they see one post they disagree with and suddenly that’s you branded as scum.
Or the ones who have to have a camera on themselves when they finally do something helpful. Gotta make sure social media knows they are doing it. I'm not filming or taking pictures when I'm down at the food bank helping people get their food. I do it because it's right. Not for likes or follows.
“Can I get 12 pizzas please, I’m giving them out to the local homeless!”
Not long ago I posted a list of what I thought are the 50 best movies. I thought it would be fun. Then 2 clowns saw that I had a few gangster movies on the list assumed to know everything about me. They said there wasn't enough female lead characters in my list and claimed there were only a few.
There were actually way more. Their opinions clearly showed that they were just basing everything off of a few titles they saw and most likely have never even seen most of the movies on the list. But, a few gangster movies were on the list so they automatically knew everything about me, lol.
How do you figure out an entire person from a list of movies they like? 🤔
They apparently had me all figured out from just 4 movies on the list, lol. The assumptions they were making about the list weren't even correct. They either just stopped reading around the top 10 or they hadn't even seen most of them.
What an amazing ability to have, eh?
Some people are just gifted like that, I guess, lol.
There's a lot who don't realize how transparent it is that the only point they're making is "I'm better than other people."
Oh the majority of negative interactions on social media is just one big game of trying to one-up a complete stranger to make themselves feel better. No doubt.
He's not a lawyer, he claims he didn't take the BAR and inflated his ego with follow up posts. He's full of shit lol.
If people would put in half the effort in real life that they do being performative on the internet then we might actually get somewhere
Too true...
looks like a guy I full chest laughed in his face for asking me out in high school
I definitely care about what's going on, but rarely post about it. I'll post the occasional political thing, but it's not very often.
At some point i feel like you just have to not even be upset about this. I *legitimately* find it comical that people are this formulaic and just can't possibly resist the urge to be "always on".
Like clockwork
Jesus
Yes, I'm sure he's leading the charge to right all the wrongs every moment of every day of his life. 🙄 This moment is an existential threat to everyone. There's also only so much you can do. I still have to go to work. I still have responsibilities. A brief respite from the terror /= ignoring it.
He's got a following of bots that do the same thing he does, he's irrelevant and is changing exactly nothing.
I would argue that performative bullshit like that is even worse than doing nothing.
That's exactly what it is if you take even one look at his TL.
He's no one and that drives him crazy. Maybe he should play some Sonic and stfu.
Yet props himself up about how much he cares (more then others).
Who knew empathy and compassion could be a competition?
I saw his grandstanding BS before I blocked him.
Some people are just absolute idiots. I don't know what to tell ya.
It's so weird that people get angry when you don't want to constantly talk politics. Like in their minds, if you don't interact or talk about it, you don't care. Most people just want a space where they don't have to think about every waking minute
That dude is totally making a difference lol SUREEEEEEEEEEEEE
Those in power want you posting and sharing everything, feeling that you’re making a change when, in fact it’s not really doing anything in the algorithm designed echo chamber. Pre 2012-ish, things were different. But rich people found out how to make money and control our lives online. It sucks.
Yes. Additionally, there are so many accounts that just want to capitalize on the outrage and don't give a single shit about the issues. They just echo the talking points on social media and hope they grow a big following.
You just know people like that all voted for Trump hoping to capitalize on four more years of his bullshit
Yes, but here there are people doing it on the other side too because they know more of the other side is here. They don't care they just want to grow accounts.
It’s the online equivalent of losing third spaces. No ones allowed to do anything (game, chat, hang out, draw, masturbate even lol) anymore if you’re not making someone money somehow. MAKE BEING CREATIVE OR GOOFY OR HORNY OR OPINIONATED WITH NO MONETARY GOALS A THING AGAIN! 🤪🤪😜🤪
Just out of curiosity, I scanned his profile...there's a lot going on there lol and it sure ain't "Here's how YOU can get involved to help!"
No, it's him trying to get attention focused on himself and exploiting real world issues to achieve success. He's irrelevant and I don't have to do anything else that he hasn't already done to himself.
Maybe it's his way of trying to drive people to his OnlyFans 😆
with his peach fuzz balls
It's really frustrating. I do a lot, I stay informed, I give a substantial amount to charity and mutual aid things. I'm involved. I also like having a time I can fucking relax. I'm Latino, I'm scared, i'm friends with a lot of people who are also targets and I'm scared for them. I need peace, too.
Some of the people making the most noise online are the ones that litetally only do activism online, which is why they feel the need to be so loud.
Something very strange about accounts with 6k follows that only get 4 or 5 likes 🧐🤔
So it's now official Bluesky has become like the other social media apps. You can't have your opinion without getting people mad at you.
We have block buttons that work though
True but that doesn't stop the problem. Yes it makes your profile peaceful. But it doesn't solve the problems. The negative people will find away back to you again. It never ends.
Unfortunately 😔
Its ok to not make every space we enter into somewhere we scream into the void. My page is also devoid of my very intense feelings on the state of the world right now because I know firsthand how difficult it is to find somewhere where it doesn't remind my Trans community of our imminent erasure.
I'm on Bluesky to get away from politics. It's nice having people on here that are all "Hey remember that cool video game from 20 years ago? " instead of whatever bullshit is in the news
Out of all the insults he used "candy ass" woooow big boy words
It’s a threat to my existence and my family’s and I agree with you. People, especially when stressed out, need spaces where there is calm, and people who can’t respect that suck.
Right. I do everything I can to stand firm on rights for everyone and I care very deeply, but I don't agree with the notion we have to be plugged into this machine 24/7 on every platform is all.
I also don’t think Robert Pierre is in any kind of danger. He’s putting on a show for approval.
Behaviour like this is genuinely crazy to me. There are a *lot* of ways to actually try and make a difference in the world, and posting on social media/antagonising random people for not wanting their entire existence to revolve around politics is not one of them.
It's literally just grandstanding from people who I guarantee you do jack shit in actuality, they just post to get a following from exploiting the real world issues on social media.
Linktree in bio says "gimme monetizable clout" He has to pay for all those fake followers somehow
What a toolbag.
Right? It's virtue signalling bs. The kicker is 9 times out of 10 you have no idea who you're actually talking to online...assuming someone "doesn't care" or isn't part of any of the communities going through it rn because they don't want a social media feed that's 100% political is just stupid.
IDK why people rage all the time. It's like they love being miserable. I learned early in life that life is short enjoy the F out of it. Being miserable and raging all the time sounds so miserable to me.
This is why I indiscriminately block anyone who about posts politics if they show up on my feed Doesn’t matter if I agree with what’s being said, if I wanted to see politics on my feed I’d use Reddit or Twitter, that is NOT why I came here.
If you don't destroy your nervous system by freebasing catastrophe 24/7 you aren't morally pure like I am, a jittery lunatic whose entire peronality has been replaced by a doomsday news ticker.
Being angry about politics 24/7 is not healthy :( I'm trans so there's a lot at stake for me politically right now, but even I try to maintain a balance.
Yep, and I'm someone who cares about your rights and will donate and vote for you every time. But we ALL need separation from the constant noise, mentally it's not healthy for any of us to make it every fiber of our being.
As predictable as the tides and twice as salty. Fighting and fear mongering all the time doesn't win our battles. Even soldiers going to war have their moments of rest and respite, we don't need ours taken from us.
Some of us have big, awful things going on outside of the country going to shit. My brain needs a break and I'm assuming theirs needs it too.
posting and complaining about world issues all day does not equal making a change. If you're posting all day, how do you have time to make a difference in your community?
Some people should do a little trick I do. Daily, I set a timer for about 20-30 minutes of just reading news and looking at the state of the world. Occasionally, it'll be a weekly thing (I don't always want to worsen my state of mind). Hyperfocusing on the bad shit often only makes your head hurt.
I’m political more than most on here but bruh, yelling at people isn’t gonna do shit. He’s an idiot.
Some people are so throughly stuck in a negative loop that anything that contradicts it just sends them on a tirade.
This world, especially if you live in the U.S., is going through some really awful fucking times. If only these people understood that being wired into politics 24/7 is NOT productive, nor is it good for the mind. This is how people burn out and shut down.
Candy ass bitch can choke on his words for all I care. No regular wants politics to be shoved in their face all day, every day. Fuck dumbasses like him!
If you're hooked on every single bad thing going on right now you will mentally exhaust yourself within a day. It's okay to worry, it's okay to help wherever and whenever you can but you should also take time for yourself to relax and unwind.
That kind of negativity is why I’m on this platform to begin with. I mostly talk about gaming, though sometimes I’ll talk about my autism or the teacher shortage (mainly because my mom is a teacher and I’m her voice, else she’d get in trouble for speaking up.) (1/2)
But even then if a page is like 90% politics I won’t follow because I’m in other spaces where that stuff is discussed. Bluesky is my happy place. As someone with a comm background I recommend people to have more than one online space. (2/2)
That has to be @thelouvreof.bsky.social bait.
I was part of a charity stream that raised 12k for Trans Lifeline last month but he's posting through it on social media so he's the one making the real difference in the world
While we absolutely need to be aware and vote, donate, protest, and be active in the world, there is certainly revolution in joy. There’s a difference with being intentional in your consumption and turning a blind eye.
It's a marathon, not a sprint. Guys like that who demand everyone be in the thick of it 24/7 don't actually care about the movements they claim to and are just in it for the fame. Any activist who is actually worth their salt understands mental health and taking breaks.
I agree. We all are human and do what we can with what we have and that's what counts.
Turning a blind eye to Consumption. It’s tuberculosis.
It’s always tuberculosis smh
Exactly 💯
i wouldn’t say posting online does nothing, however it is oftennn virtue signaling and there are plenty of equally or more affective ways to help. beyond that, someone wanting an account reserved for joy is not a bad thing and does not harm anyone presuming they stay informed in other ways.
It's absolutely fine to have a space to decompress and escape from the barrage of awful shit that's happening, doesn't mean you dont care.
What a wanker
I have to imagine this is why so many follow you. I get my game fix without the political banter.
Ah right because reposts and political commentary is what makes the difference. The entitlement that everyone HAS to see everything they share is insane
I think honestly it is unhealthy how some people on here go on about politics 24/7. You need some kind of enjoyment or the misery just consumes you… kind of like this guy! 🫤
God damn, I get pissed off about politics and try to do what I can, but I can't do much if I give my damn self an aneurysm from all the unbridled rage, and that would happen if I couldn't find a single place to escape from it.
Dudes' on some lists... ◽ Blue MAGA dipshits ◽ Braindead ◽ Failed the vibe check ◽ Monumental Dipshits ◽ People Detrimental To The Social Media Experience ◽ Reply Guys (derogatory) ◽ Moist and Stinky
You got called a Candy ass bitch, you can’t recover from this, I’m so sorry. Sending thought and prayers for such a savage insult x
By a guy with 6k followers all doing exactly what he does and getting almost zero engagement on his posts. I might as well hang it up, Ross! You wanna take over Retro Blast? 👀
What and be a candy ass like you? No thanks!
I care about everything going on, but I don't need it thrust in my face fucking 24/7. I want to make sure my own mental health is fine so I can function in the real world. These people are insufferable, blocked the whiny bitch as well. Your page, you do as you please.
Man, I can't understand people like this. Everyone wants a break. We aren't all powerful, perfect creatures. Even people under duress find time and ways to escape and rest. It's not about privilege. It's about being where you're at and being human.
On the flip side, a lot of us *DO* care about those issues, we just don't want that negativity, fear mongering, and broken hearts to infect the one last bastion of hope we have: retro tech/gaming. It's a hobby. It's supposed to be fun! It's supposed to be safe! Up to us to keep it that way.
Exactly. You get it.
"Must be nice!" is up there on my list of "most facepunchable phrases of all time"
Oh, you’re absolutely right, sir!
About which part?
About reposting political articles and raging every day changes nothing. Sometimes I think raging about politics on social media actually wastes time and energy that could be used to make actual changes.
Well said, I agree.
I've seen this attitude so much among people and I'm like "yeah I'm so privileged for valuing my mental health".
they will go nicely on my blocked list
