I listened to a bit of Mike Johnson’s speech when he opened the new congress. It was like he was George costanza advocating the opposite of every position I hold. That party is wrong so consistently despite decades of evidence. Sad.

I would personally like to see the tax/benefit structure return wealth stolen from the working class over the last 40 years returned, strong labor protections, investments in science, and tighter regulations on private entities controlling critical infrastructure. That’s not an exhaustive list.

I've read about his association with Epstein and allegedy sexual abuse cases, including an ongoing child rape court case against him. I read about his bankruptcies along with 3000+ lawsuits,etc... I was terrified when he won the nomination. GOP are traitors. I can't believe we are here again!

It doesn’t seem like it. He seems sincere in his Republican stances, but the social and economic differences can be decided later through the democratic process but only if we have democracy. Liz Cheney, Murkowski and others as well, even when we oppose them on major issues.
People realize their mistakes and learn at their own pace, everything is possible if you try to understand them first instead of throwing your views in their face.

He deserves gratitude for defending democratic principles when it counted. However, many of his policy positions—healthcare, immigration, gun control, abortion—diverge significantly from the values of the Democratic Party. Good Republican, but not a Democrat.
One thing the Dems need to do is ditch the purity test. There are those in the party that don't, say, approve of abortion. And that's fine. They don't have to have one. I'm sure there's room in our party for people who have different views, and they might (and probably will) come around.

We may be finally on a path to a third party. All it would take is 10 elected house members (maybe even as few as 6) and 4 Senators to really change dynamics. I would welcome a new pro democracy pro freedom (for all) party. It would get us back to negotiations instead of "hostage swaps".
We need Ranked Choice Voting, so new parties can develop without splitting the vote & having the opposite effect on what we want
My state just banned this. 😑 Republicans snuck in RVC into an amendment that also contained stuff about allowing only legal American citizens to vote. Absolute insanity. RCV is the single best way to produce fair elections not based on party clout.
I think he and the country would be better served if he styled himself as a leader of #post-maga republicanism, namely one that isn’t populist and focuses on being truly for small government. There’ll always be right leaning voters in the US, so he should work to claw them back from Trump.
If he would convince congress to file a lawsuit against trump based on him being disqualified under the 14 amendment!
