There's usually a 24-48 hour period after a general election when very briefly it looks like things might get better, then it's back to business as usual.

Great isn't it. Anything remotely progressive is presented absolute fringe crank stuff that will destroy the country. I can remember when there were debates,etc, about how the minimum wage would do exactly that in the late 90's.
