Alien Earth having an episode that's basically a redux of Alien is pretty funny. I mean, the whole pitch of the series was to be something different, on Earth,etc. There's some very clunky plot contrivances too. The cast is good but with 3 episodes left I'm wondering where this is going. 🤔
Amazed this hasn't been converted into housing for the absurdly wealthy and eccentric. Estate agents would have a field day coming up with listings for this, 'Building is presented in a unique artistic manner', etc.

I worry that the decades it took to build anti-racism norms are unravelling quite quickly. Clearly the protests/social media drumbeat has created a permission structure that makes people think they can behave like this. Hard to see how it can be easily re-bottled.

My concerns would be the hotels are barely fit for human habitation, asylum seekers aren't allowed to get jobs whilst waiting for claims to be processed, so live on pittance, and the landlord that owns that hotel is making a fortune in taxpayer money. Not sure that's what Starmer's concerns are.

Yeah. The series definitely has the production values, but the writing and pacing is a bit all over the place. I was saying to a friend it will be hilarious if it's just 7 episodes of build up and then episode 8 ends on a cliffhanger.
I caught that, but thought it might be deliberate to demonstrate that the character saying it is actually an idiot talking about stuff he doesn't understand. Or the writers are in fact idiots. 50/50 really.

Great isn't it. Anything remotely progressive is presented absolute fringe crank stuff that will destroy the country. I can remember when there were debates,etc, about how the minimum wage would do exactly that in the late 90's.

Watched Jonathan Glazer's Under the Skin for the first time. Absolutely engrossing stuff, probably Scarlett Johansson's best role and performance to date and definitely one of the best sci-fi films of the 2000's.

It's quite something to see TV presenters, newspaper editors, columnists, politicians, etc, all manufacturing a new reality, one siloed away from actual reality. They don't seem to care it could get people hurt or killed.
Both the Lucy Connolly and the Epping hotel cases have now taken on a political-media existence of their own, unconnected with what actually happened in court. It doesn't matter there were published sentencing remarks in one and a judge-prepared summary in the other. People want stories instead.
And if you're wondering whether someone getting killed is what it will take for the media and political class to come to their senses, I would just remind you that Jo Cox was murdered in a similar moment of demagoguery and hysteria 9 years ago, and if anything things have got far worse since then.

4 episodes in to Alien Earth and despite the impressive production design the biggest issue is the glacial pacing. There might be some interesting themes like transhumanism bubbling away and the world building has potential but there's only 8 episodes and there doesn't seem to be much momentum.
I just checked and a one to one session private with a therapist/counsellor is around £60 in my area. So 4 weekly sessions would be around £240 a month. So if you don't have £240+ spare a month then you're stuck on an NHS waiting list. No wonder there's a mental health crisis.
