It’s bad enough that my phone listens to me and tracks. Don’t need any of that other stuff in our house!
Wait, they’re paying humans to listen and do stuff with the information? I thought their agenda was to replace humans with AI in every way?
a lot of AI was (or is) clickworker farms around the world getting paid 1c to listen to a conversation, tag a photo, find a forest fire in an aerial image, etc
Oppsy think I will unplug mine.
Never owned any devices like that. Fucking creepy shit
Turn off the microphones on each device, y'all. You have to type commands into the app, which is not a big deal. (use a VPN, btw) I only really use them to play music, tho
I unplug mine when not using.
Um, yes, that’s how voice controlled devices are trained. This has been known for years. And, yes, every year or two someone makes the Big Discovery that this is how they’re trained.
And a few more of us oldsters are gratified we don't jump on the very next gadget immediately. We learned that growing up under parents who lived within their means even if it meant we worked the land, too.
Thank you for this, Casey.
I knew I would never own one of those creepy devices
Glad I ditched my Alexa because I would really be tempted to jobber on about some mad shit right now otherwise.
I used to do that job, but for Apple’s Siri instead.
Tell us more!
Essentially, we had to listen to hundreds of records every day, and for each record, we had to answer four questions: 1. Was the person understandable? 2. Was the person actually talking to Siri? 3. Did Siri understand the query correctly? 4. Did Siri respond correctly to the query? See also…
Re: conversations in my house - those poor people.
That is effing hilarious
Fuck off Bezos. Are you listening?
I was at an RSA Cybersecurity conference a few years ago and was in line for a T-shirt. They were asking people if we wanted to sign up for a chance to win an Amazon Echo. Everyone looked at them crosseyed like, "Uh...no." Out of 15 in line, none signed up.
At a cyber security conference?? JFC... 😁
It was pretty funny.
I regret exactly zero fucks the number of times I have screamed "FUCK YOU ALEXA" when one is in range of my voice.
