rhetorically it also serves as a mechanism for controlling trans people. suppose i wanted to signal that i’m “one of the good ones” and i don’t endorse this “transgender ideology”. what would i have to do? i’d have to cast aside all dignity and self-respect, and it still wouldn’t satisfy them

i would have to throw myself under the bus & encourage other trans people to do likewise. it’s an impossible task. but at the same time, the phrase allows bigots to say they don’t hate trans people personally, they just oppose “the transgender ideology”. it gets them off the hook and leaves us on it
