It's really not! I think one of the biggest things I'd wish people could understand about trans women broadly is this variance - though I guess I also wish more people just understood it about women, generally.
I fit the stereotype, career and demographic wise, but I couldn’t push coding any further from my identity outside of work if I tried. It’s just a job that I happen to do because it seemed like it would make more money than finishing a creative writing degree.
And it’s not like the stereotype makes an employer more likely to hire you. Your boss is probably not spreading “programming socks” memes, and is def not hiring based on them. It’s just a way to make us look unserious and infantilized.
