This hits home very closely with me because I recently lost $4.5M (my entire lifesavings as I was heading into retirement) to a horrible, extremely well executed social engineering pig butchering crypto investment platform scam executed by one of the huge criminal scam enterprises in SE Asia…
With lead operatives out of Europe and US (I know this). I was able to get the US Secret Service ice to open an investigation in Feb. but they did a very minimal lackluster job, with one agent involved and she was away for a long time doing other work, probably immigration related considering Tucson
They only traced the crypto once, $2M still in private wallets, $2M in Changelly foreign exchange, $500k in Bequant Prime Ltd (Binance foreign subsidiary). All they did was send a single letter to the 2 exchanges asking if they would provide info (no response, no follow up).
In the meantime my crypto funds could be moving further on the blockchain. I also was able to connect with another victim in S. Carolina of same/linked scam, which Secret Service confirmed, but didn’t try to assist him or link to the bigger scam operation.
Now other victim and I are collaborating trying to find federal, state, local law enforcement who will take up our linked cases (>$5M total stolen) and can’t find anyone interested! I also contacted the FBI in February filing an IC3 report and have had no response.
