Yes. What Trump is doing cannot be repaired in our lifetimes: trust & institutions don't grow back like blades of mown grass. This isn't just a US-in-the-world problem: Once DOGE gets done selling our tax return data & the real estate on which federal bldgs are located, the cat's out of the bag.

The world does not understand why Americans are not taking to the streets? You’re watching your democracy die.

Americans are showing up. 30,000 for Sanders and AOC in Denver last night -- largest CO political rally in 17 years. Lots of protests daily. Huge national one planned for April 5th. Traditional media is very spotty about reporting this.

That, too. Our media infrastructure has almost completely capitulated to MAGA, so what protest there is, mostly isn't covered. Thanks be to the people who have come out to protest. But there isn't anything like the massive nationwide BLM protests now, in part bc everyone knows what Hegseth will do.

And Trump has made very clear that he's looking for an opportunity to declare martial law, which will increase his powers exponentially. He wanted to shoot protesters in 2020; now he can. Trump's press secretary has already called for the *death penalty* for those protesting at Tesla dealerships!

Then the world is poorly informed about current events. They should know that in the past 2 years, 100s of thousands of ppl protested DAILY in Hungary, Venezuela, Belarus, Israel, etc. to dislodge their dictators. Result: Those dictators Did. Not. Budge. Dictators learn from each other. 1/2

Trump & others have learned that they can ignore mass protests. PLUS, Trump has installed as head of our military a man whose ONLY qualification is his willingness to use the armed forces to kill American protesters. That's why Hegseth immediately fired anyone who would prevent that illegal action.

Indeed the dictators learn from each other. Nonetheless while the world sees protests the resistance it is not very large (yet). A recent headline was: Trump is making Europe great again. The Europeans are forced to become independent and self relying but that will also take some time. 1/2

What also concerns me is that DOGE is probably installing backdoors in the systems they've been penetrating. Who will have access to these? That's a long-term threat.

Honestly, most of the systems they've touched should probably be ditched entirely and rebuilt from scratch. That will be safer and possibly cheaper than scouring the code line by line. Even the hardware should be scrapped.

Aside from the prohibitive costs, I can think of another reason it can't happen: some of these legacy systems are probably undocumented and opaque. They wouldn't be able to rebuild them 'cause they don't know how they work.

So many different ways this is true. Look at the nations saying they now consider using American weapons to be a security risk. They're going to develop their own weapon systems and share them with each other, and once they make that investment, they'll be locked in for decades.

An opposition candidate - whoever that may be - needs to run on building back the government trump has destroyed with 100% taxes on anything over $1billion. I think that would be a very popular platform. And who the hell needs more than $999,999,999?!

I've long thought we should have a wealth cap of some sort. Until now, I thought it was too fringe an idea to even discuss. Now, it might actually get some traction.

I thought Democrats would oppose the destruction of the government by meeting each act of destruction with a description of how this will be built back better, how we will better-secure the necessary independence of our institutions, how we prevent this from recurring. Restoration can begin today.

It would be a great way to both inform the public of what is being lost and what the public has to gain by supporting the Democratic Party. I suspect that they cannot get consensus on any part of it in a useful time frame. I'm not sure they're generally prepared to express or promote their values.
