I don't think they dropped it on purpose. It was a borderline infield fly, but the home plate umpire clearly called it. Reds just messed up and then the Cardinals let them out of it.

It was not called until the ball hit the ground. I thought it had to be called in the air π€·π»ββοΈ

I only saw a replay with no sound. It generally would have been unremarkable until the base runner decided to give himself up at home, right?
The Cardinals had 2 players occupying 3B and a runner at 2B, so someone was going to get out at that point.
