Trump wants Jerome Powell out at the Federal Reserve. A lead contender is waiting in the wings.
Trump wants Jerome Powell out at the Federal Reserve. A lead contender is waiting in the wings.
He’s at it again. Getting anyone who disagrees with him replaced.
Just incredibly bad move from any perspective. The markets want and need a known and credible person at the Fed. Investors would not tolerate a politically motivated forced change. Dumb Dumb Dumd!
A contender doesn't matter CNN when legally there isn't a job to fill.
Funny how this whole financial disaster is as exasperated under Trumps first term when he botched the Covid Pandemic outset. Why is CNN and others forgetting to remind us all this
Stay strong Powell
Great, another entitled not self made billionaire making policy decisions in an effort only to appease the orange clown. That's exactly what we need.
He sounds like a yes man. This will be catastrophic
They want to crash the market
Crashing the economy seems to be the endgame here.
trumps tariffs are not boosting his ratings or his ego so he needs a scapegoat-either the supreme court(who does not want to get dragged into this) or the Federal Reserve-seeing how this admin cannot make any well thought out decisions-they inherited from Biden a healthy economy & trump destroyed it
If he's anything like Navarro, we'll have double digit inflation in the first week of his taking power. Buy your beans and rice now before the dollar crashes!
He can change the person but he can not change the facts.
Ah yes..... Another idiot.... Russia's economy is going to look fantastic compared to the US at this rate. Sit Trump Sit. Good serf.
Mais ações do desgoverno NaziTrumpp 2025!
Criminal Trump is ruining people's lives.
Just because Powell knows what he's doing? There's no logic in lowering interest rates while Trump is forcing ungodly irrational tariffs onto this country and our global community. Except for Russia, Cuba, NK and Belarus. Why Belarus? That's very odd.
Why bother? if all he's going to do is exactly what Trump says then why doesn't Trump just do it himself. The obvious answer, is when it all invariably goes t*ts up then he needs someone to throw under a bus
In the article - In his Wall Street Journal op-ed, Warsh wrote that high inflation rates over the past few years arose from “a government that spent too much and a central bank that printed too much.” He was a federal reserve governor and doesn't know the treasury prints the money?
The Fed is not a casino.
He wants to break our economy. Is CNN going to have the courage to cover the protests tomorrow through out the country? Cover the protests - for The People 50 states
The Fed lowered rates his first term to keep the economy from crashing. He thought they would bail him out again.
He’s jumping the shark daily. It just helps us at this point.
He doesn’t have the authority to fire Powell - so it doesn’t matter who is “waiting in the wings”.
But he basically has control of those who do. So I’m sure he’ll get his way.
It will crash the economy and make things 1000 times worse than they are now. Who is going to trust a US Fed that isn’t independent of the whims of a President? Everyone abroad will pull their money out of our market and they won’t be inclined to reinvest.
That's the point, and China will oblige.
Ok. Not sure he cares. Doesn’t change the fact he will do whatever he wants. They had the chance to impeach him the first time round and republicans protected him. It’s on them now.
It matters who is waiting in the wings because, as the article says, Powell's term is up in a year anyway. It matters very much who is waiting in the wings.
Still has to be confirmed by the Senate. The bigger point here is that CNN’s headlines lend credence to the idea that Trump can fire Powell. He can’t.
Is it CNN's fault that people read just the headlines a lot of the time? I go back and forth, but end up saying "if people refuse to be well informed, we don't deserve democracy." Democracy absolutely must have most people meet their duty. In any case, CNN explicitly states in the article:
Cool story and you prove my point. Many people see the headline, don’t read, and assume Trump has the power to fire him.
Well, I guess the headline never contains the full story, so you can always critique on the headline. I didn't see the headline specifying when the person waiting in the wings would manifest. So if a person makes an assumption, here, it is their fault.
The headline should have never been written that way. That’s the point.
"While many experts say the president does not in fact have the power to fire the Fed chief due to policy differences"
Why are you sticking up for CNN? Curious.
Ask #trump investors his business failures losing their investment www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol... Only Musk lost more $ than trump www.nytimes.com/interactive/... Most voters unaware trump incompetence Trump hid by lying www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/pol... #TrumpFiles #resist
Oh joy. Two thing of note: he heads the “Hoover”institute. And he was at the fed in 2008 when we had the last economic fiasco. Another puppet on Trump’s string. And Congress just keeps following Trump down the recession/depression rat hole.
Powell is a winner. He is not afraid of Trump.
If and when Drump installs a yes man as Fed chair the economy will tank more than it already has. Drump is transforming our economy from good to garbage. We are so screwed.
This moment of constitutional fuckery brought to you by Ketamine. Ketamine: For those times when having everything isn't enough.
Fascism. He's being Fauci'ed. Report it factually!!
Did he learn any lessons about deflation? Another oligarch.
Trump doesn't have the the authority to remove Powell but we have the authority to remove Trump..Impeachment...If congress can ever retrieve their balz that Trump snipped off..
Who, Hulk Hogan?
Stop both sidesing, @cnn.com. "While many experts say the president does not in fact have the power to fire the Fed chief due to policy differences" -- no, craven clowns, Trump clearly does NOT have the power to summarily dismiss a Fed Chairman. This spineless "journalism" enables authoritarianism.
Yes, there's always another ass-kissing Trump loyalist waiting in the wings, isn't there. An endless fucking supply of them.
In related news, Trump wants Scott Jennings to be his official @cnn.com spokesperson, so this has to be memory holed.
If 🍊💩 wants him it's got to be -- yet another -- bad choice.
Donnie, You can't always get what you want. Cut to infantile tantrum.
The brand of this narcissistic sociopath has become the earworm he wants it to be. For the sake of the country's sanity (& a lot of other reasons), drop the brand name. With luck, it could help keep us from dealing with him after 2028.
Here's a suggestion... Freely and accurately report, but leave the word 'Trump' entirely out of your releases. Express the office. Just use 'the President ' or something.
Or, CNN, you could call out the authoritarian behavior by stating TFG doesn't have the authority to remove Powell just because he isn't a lapdog. Sanewashing the breakdown of our government institutions isn't helping anyone.
President Elon Musk: "End The Federal Reserve" 🧵thread bsky.app/profile/edhi...
This guy was against one of the key items that helped us get out of the ‘08 crash, which happened under his watch
