Would you board a plane taking off with just the pilot and no other on-board staff. If anything goes wrong you need staff back-up on the train. No skimping on safety! The UK transport unions are campaigning for always having a driver and a guard on the train. @rmtunion.bsky.social

Sorry this is room temp IQ level stuff. The vast majority of airport shuttles are automated & nobody bats an eye. Same exact technology in a metro & suddenly we need a 3 member staff per train? That’s not even counting the millions of people riding fully automated metros around the world for decades

London DLR has had driverless trains for many years, but always have a guard on the trains to ensure safety if anything goes wrong. UK and the USA aren't like China or Hong Kong, which have superb amounts of investment in people-owned infrastructure. UK/USA lag behind.

If there was a driver I couldn’t see out the big picture window in the front of the train though

The Copenhagen metro has been operating driverless for 20+ years. It just works.

Do you ride the Tube by any chance? Or the Paris Metro?

Would you get in an elevator without an attendant? If anything goes wrong, you need back-up staff in the elevator. No skimping on safety – bring back elevator attendants!
