This was and still is my least favorite mission. I recently just went through it again (like last week) and threw on the stupid chicken hat just to be able to walk through it.

Yeah it’s the worst, the only truly low point of an otherwise enormous and extraordinary experience. I think that’s why it stands out so much to many players.
I've tried to go back to do a replay of Phantom Pain a couple of times, but all of the 2015 Service Game cruft that encrusts it deters me each time. How has the experience of getting through that been for you?
I am 35h deep and on my second playthrough and have literally zero idea what this is in reference to.
Logging into the game gives you eight million pop ups about how your base got invaded since the last time you logged in and there are like 3 different Konami service agreements you have to wade through, ect. (I should probably just play it on PC with a clean save instead of going back to PS)
I did the agreements but they were a one and done. Online stuff has no impact on my exp at all so far. I believe that’s quite late game and I dunno, I’m always Fulton’ing enough dudes on ops that it’ll make up for anyone I lose on deployments or multiplayer raids. Can’t recall if you can opt out
But you can certainly just play off-line. You can disconnect or reconnect from the pause menu at any time, so that should solve any online grief.
You scare me. In the time it took me to beat dark ages, you’ve beaten two metal gears. And now you’re making me want to follow your lead…
hahaha to be fair i'm maybe halfway in Phantom Pain. But I've also played it 2x as long as Delta soooooooooo you're not wrong. JOIN MEEEE
I'm having a fundamentally different experience with Phantom Pain in 2025 than I did in 2015. Both equally excellent. I'm building different gear, which enables different choices during missions. I'm running way more Side Ops and free roam missions to build up Mother Base much earlier. I'm in love
My hot take was The Phantom Pain was the best game that year, but since it was 1. Unfinished and 2. Not narrative-focused but systems-focused in a critical apparatus that really only cares about narrative-focused games, it did not get the credit it deserved.
It's maybe my favorite experience I've ever had with video games
I’ve been meaning to revisit the franchise because it’s been *a minute*. I recall at launch absolutely loving the freedom of how you approach missions in Phantom Pain, but past the prologue having a lot of plot beats that just didn’t….congeal the right way that I loved from past entries.
I'm also enjoying the downtime -- I love listening to cassettes while researching Mother Base platforms, developing new weapons, customizing companions, and planning free roam routes to extract A++ operatives. I have such a stronger understanding this time, barely halfway in the story after 40h
it's my fave mgs game and by a long way tbh. the loop is just sublime
